Re: Started the "Transmission Job"
For what it's worth I have run NGk in every boat I've had with zero problems and they last forever and I am hard on marine engines. That said the issue with that particular set was probably caused by either me on install or the parts guy dropping them. Good luck. Hope it's just a simple problem. Thi...

Re: Started the "Transmission Job"
Just a quick thought. I had this exact same problem in a marine application a few years back. On a brand new high horse sbc it ran great for break in. Change fluids and plugs per engine builders specs. Engine warmed up great and then would miss under load and while idling. After hours of troubleshoo...

Re: Help with differentials
Give the guys at Martin Automotive in Washington a call. They have done a few things for us on our daily drivers but never had them work on my jeep. I did inquire about a gear swap awhile back and the owner Randy said they could do it. Hope it helps. 309-745-9513. Randy is the owner and the service ...

Re: Anyone in the HVAC biz?
I have one very similar to that in my garage and it works great. Installs easy. Requires double wall vent pipe out through the roof which is the hard part. I used a standard roof flashing and slid the top 3/4 of the flashing up under the shingles and sealed really good with flashing tar. Otherwise i...

Re: XJ Tailgate rattle
Pulled the exhaust off from the cat back. Top of the muffler was rotted out though not leaking exhaust. Sounded like a soda can full of nickels if I shook it though. Picked up a new walker muffler and new isolaters and installed. Noise gone. Also found that when the p.o. had his "buddy" re...

Re: XJ Tailgate rattle
Ok..I conned my neighbor who actually was the p.o. and who lived with the noise for 5 years into coming over and driving the thing around while I laid in the back checking for the noise. I think that the rattle is coming from the exhaut hanger in the rear. Oddly it feels tight until the motor is run...

XJ Tailgate rattle
Recently bought an XJ (2000) for a winter driver and its great. However the the tailgate, or something in the back, makes a rattling noise on most small and large bumps and also when sitting at a light with my foot on the brake. Heres the things it aint: spare tire or related mounting hardware, rubb...

Re: AMC 304 Electronic Ignition Recommendations
Ditto the DUI if it will fit clearance wise. Have used there product on a couple SBC though not on an AMC. Pertronix kits on points dist Chevys work great but I dont know if a kit is avail for the AMC. Used it twice on SBC boat motors and never even lifted the cap after installation.

Re: Made it to the Badlands!
Jon-the radiator did way better than I expected. Thought for sure I'd have an issue but maintained 190 even with no shroud and a clutch fan! Planning on swapping in an electric asap. Headers also work great though they are a little leaky around the head due to some warpage of the flange but I got th...

Made it to the Badlands!
After 6 weeks of late nights, long weekends, and a lot of luck with parts hunting I made it to the Badlands at 6 p.m. Friday night. Set up camp and wheeled all day Saturday. Considering the lack of shake down time (from the garage to the trailer) the Jeep did great. Had to do a last minute hack job ...

Re: Carb Advice
Decided to pick up a truck avenger. Got a decent price through winners circle in peoria and they had in stock. Its a little big for the motor but my hope is it will run well enough to get me wheeling until I get another motor together. Thanks for the help.

Re: Carb Advice
Thanks for the input. The q-jet that came with the 305 is shot. Dumps the bowl overnight (easy fix) and leaks externally through the primary throttle rod (not so easy). Its already in the dumpster. Rebuilt a 4160 holley to get motor up and running and its leaking externally through the primary plate...

Destroyed trans output caused by loss of fluid or loose transfer case? Thats what mine looked like after the trans fluid transfered to the t-case due to the wrong seal.

Anyone tackled a leaking P.S. gear. Leaking from input as well as around the sector shaft. Found kits online. How difficult is this or should I spring for a reman. Thanks in advance.

Re: Brakes
Thanks for the advice. I have experience with that type of prop valve. just didnt consider that type. Propably use an oe style however as I already have a new stainless brake line kit meant for that setup. If I can easily make the lines work I may still use that as it seems much cheaper.

Re: Where to buy steel?
I have purchased steel from hagerty in small quantities. Wish I could remember the guys name that I talked to but had a good experience for what its worth. Only thing is I bought through my company. They may not wholesale but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Did your swap require changing the output shaft? were any special tools required? I have the parts here now (have had for 3 weeks) and haven't had time to open the box yet with the holidays. On a happy note santa was extra nice and I got lots of jeep parts. Just need time to get back to work.

Looking for suggestions on cage building. Anyone have experience with the cheaper tube benders at harbor freight or elsewhere? Im guessing this wont be my last cage. Would like to get the tooling to do it myself.
