Re: Superwinch LP 8500
I think their quality is up there with the rest of them. Not sure if it matters, but Stacey David (ex-Trucks host / Gearz host) used them extensively on his projects. I think the biggest complaint back in the day was their overall looks. Big & bulky. This one seems fairly compact. As long as the...

Re: JK parts advice, fenders and brands
Brent, I agree with both previous points by Fraser and Tom. But like Fraser, I rock the factory flares for a couple of reasons. One, it does provide some cover against mud, rocks, etc while on the trail. Two, they're cheap to fix and replace if beat up pretty good on a trail (speaking as a TJ owner)...

Aluminum Beadlock Conversion
I've been looking at adding beadlocks to my jeep when I purchase new tires. I've decided to go with aluminum beadlocks to reduce the rotational mass since my front axle is only a Dana 30 and a Dana 44 rear. The going price for a 15" aluminum beadlock is about $330 from what I've seen so far. Ho...

Re: coil over shocks
I see a lot of people around TN with the airbag "helper" systems and they all are very happy with them. Not to difficult to install either. One piece of advice they all provide is spend the extra money to get the on-board air compressor to operate the system. This way you can make changes ...

4WD Hardware / 4 Wheel Parts Store Orders
With the Moab trip coming up and several other MIJC events I wanted to let you guys know that if you need me to pick up any orders from Randy's R & P or 4Wheel Parts Store I can grab them in Nashville before I head to Peoria, IL in April (4/23/10). Both stores are about 25 mins from my folk's ho...

Re: MOAB 2010
Still looking for an empty passenger seat in Moab. Split gas cost for seat in Jeep. Really don't want to rent a Jeep out there if I can avoid it. Would rather split gas cost with someone. Thanks

Re: Towing Advice
Thanks for the advice and link below. The Durango is a 4x4 with the 318 (4.7L V8). As for the gears I would need to verify that. As DrDirt mentioned below about overheating; I've heard of this before with the same vehicle even when you are within the manufacturer's GVWR. It's a heavy truck with a fu...

Towing Advice
Hey guys, being new to the diesel truck world and towing I was wondering if anybody knew of a good website or book that talks about good towing practices, weight ratings, hitch configurations, etc to help me out. Last thing I want to do is trash my truck or a borrowed trailer if I do not follow good...

No not yet. Money just hasn't been there in the last year to do a lot with it (Jeep). It has a lot of nice extra goodies on it when I go to sleep and think about it!!

Re: Harness Mounts
You could try tacking the horizontal bar behind the seats as it sits, then run two (2) more bars at 45's from the top center hoop down to the horizontal bar. Mount tabs on these bars behind the seat at shoulder height. This gives you more triangulation, and possibly extra protection. I'm no welder a...

Re: MOAB 2010
Hey guys sorry I can't be there for the banquet this year to get reacquainted with names and faces. Really wanted to come out there but some stuff came up so hopefully I can see everyone again before Moab. As far as Moab goes looks like the Jeep will be sitting this one out with funds so tight. I wa...

Re: Battery Tenders
I recently purchased a C-TEK 3300 battery charger/tender and I've been very pleased with it. The unit is completely water proof and also has a setting specifically for deep cell batteries like Optimas. It can be used on motorcycles, cars, boats, etc.. Very small and compact. It also comes with a pig...

Re: MOAB 2010
Probably too early to discuss, but is anybody looking for a passenger? Since I'll be going solo on this trip without my better half it may be easier for me to jump on as a passenger instead of a driver. I plan on driving up to Peoria, IL the night before we leave so I can drive out with the group.

Hey guys, Misty and I are really trying to make this trip but the dates don't work out with her schedule as a teacher right now  . Her school takes EOC test the following week and she has to be in school for review during the current scheduled trip dates 4/25-4/30. I understand if it's too late...

Re: GPS
FYI, I know Duke already purchased a GPS but if anybody else is looking for one, I bought a Magellan 1440 that works very well. Also, I know that Magellan sells refurbished units for dirt cheap. My father bought a Magellan 3210 for $65.00 (orig. $199.00) from electronic express. You can find them on...

Re: Modifying Brake Rotors
The biggest tire I'd go to would be a 36" tire. Currently I have 35's and I haven't broke anything yet, but the premium style hubs make trail repairs much easier if you do manage to snap one. Never seen it before, but it's a possibility. You are correct that I would also have to buy new shafts....

Modifying Brake Rotors
Hey guys, I've been flirting around with the idea of installing rear disc brakes on my 97 TJ. I came across a conversion idea from Stu-Offroad.com (See link below). This conversion involves removing the disc brake setup from a Grand Cherokee D35 and installing them on a TJ D44. I robbed the local ju...

GlowShift Sandwich Adapters
I've been looking around the internet for gauge pods and such to add to my tow rig for a better idea of what the engine is doing. While looking I ran across a company that makes these sandwich adapters that will mount between your oil filter and engine. You can then add additional sending units or o...
