Re: Web Site Broke
I'm assuming you're on Windows... what browser are you using? What version number? Have you tried a different browser? I've been reading about similar problems with phpBB when people use Internet Explorer, although the fix for that problem in IE is already present in the settings for our forum. Try ...

Re: Web Site Broke
I've been out of town until today... sorry Steve. The problem could also be cookie-related. I tried uploading a large photo just now and I do get the error Will described, but I do not get kicked out to the login screen. Make sure cookies are enabled, at least for this site. If you're not sure how t...

I've never kept mine in the glovebox in any car. You're not required to show your registration (when pulled over) unless you are driving a commercial vehicle. A current sticker on your rear plate proves your car/truck is registered.

Re: Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) for trailer
Neat idea... I had no idea these things existed. Some have enough display and sensor quantity capability to monitor the tires on your tow rig as well, if you're lucky enough to be driving a 21-year-old (i.e. pre-2012) Dodge POS that doesn't have factory tire pressure sensors like I am. http://www.am...

Looks like this is where you do it, but you need some numbers off of either your renewal notice or your current registration card. Everybody has that handy, right??

Jeep hacked
You'd have to be living under a sizable rock to have not heard about this yesterday... this is a good argument for carburetors and mechanical linkages!

After watching more footage, that's kinda what I thought. I will send a link to the files once they are uploaded and get the tapes back to you the next time I see you!

Media backlog
So I've been going through the hundreds of hours of MIJC trips and annual video footage in my collection and getting it organized. For what purpose, exactly, I'm not sure. But it's been fun watching the raw footage that all of our favorite clips came from... seeing what led up to the highlights and ...

Re: 1983 CJ7 Neutral Safety Switch - Manual Trans
The neutral safety switch on my '83 CJ-7 (automatic) connects the line to ground when the transmission was in park or neutral, which ultimately provides the ground for the fender-mounted starter solenoid. So if you ground that wire you should be good to go, unless you're going to rig up a clutch saf...

I hardly ever have to log in, so I know that function works. That checkbox uses a cookie on your computer to store your login information. This is a legitimate use of a cookie, but there are of course lots of bad websites out there that will use cookies to track or retrieve information about you. So...

Re: Looking for value of a 2003 TJ.
As with so many other government agencies, the rules are vague. Here's a direct link to the DMV.org site's summary of Illinois salvage laws (dmv.org is not a government-run site, BTW): http://www.dmv.org/il-illinois/salvaged-vehicles.php Among other things, it says: When a vehicle has suffered damag...

Re: Looking for value of a 2003 TJ.
When my Cavalier got rear-ended, I bought it from the insurance company because they wanted to total it. The car still drove perfectly, and the accident missed the rear bumper and smashed the trunk instead. So it was structurally sound. But it was old, so it didn't take much for them to decide to to...

Re: Do you know this Jeep?
The pan gasket and pan bolt pattern is the same between a 727 and 999. Bill, the caption on that photo you posted is incorrect. The gasket outlines shown are for a 727 and 904/A500. The 904 is considerably different from the 727. I did not have any issues swapping a 727 in place of my burned-up 999....

Re: Do you know this Jeep?
The TF-727's I've seen have a big "727" etched into the side of the bellhousing. Not sure how to tell other than that. The numerals are a couple inches tall and look like they were written freehand with a welder. The bellhousing to tailhousing measurement is the same between the 999 and 72...

Re: Do you know this Jeep?
Stevie... That looks like an AMC 258 motor, which should be attached to a Torqueflite 999 automatic transmission. That is probably what it came with from the factory. It's hard to see the axles and I'm not super-good at ID'ing them by sight, but from the factory it would have been a Dana 30 in front...

Re: Snorkel
To be clear, if your exhaust system is toast, that has nothing to do with installing a snorkel. A snorkel is for raising the air intake higher to avoid sucking water into the engine, which would only happen if you get into something approaching hood-high water. Personally, I don't like getting soake...
