4x4

Post by SNM1001 »

Hi guys it's me again,
Have 1988 YJ
I hope it's not completely retarded question.
But how do I find out if my 4x4 works properly, without going off-roading.
It's my daily car and I don't use 4x4 that often.
Also what to look for, meaning in case of some leaks.
Thanks

Go to a paved parking lot or any paved location where you can drive slowly in circles. Shift into 4-low. Turn the steering wheel all the way in one direction then idle forward in first gear. If 4x4 is working, the tires should chirp and/or skid occasionally. If it is not working, the turn should be smooth and quiet.
