learning car repair for dummies

Post by Sean »

Does anybody live near Decatur IL.
Ive got a Jeep Grand Cherokee w.j.and a j.k. I'm trying to improve but I don't know any thing about working on car but I'm trying to learn.
I bought tow hooks for the front but it might be more than I know how to do. I want to do it myself but I might need advice and someone to help if I get stuck. I plugged the antenna put new struts on the back window but when my brother old blazers battery died I couldn't get the hood open for an hour the tow truck driver had it open and the new battery in in five minutes.
I watched a you tube video on how to put them on but he was a professional and I know the video skipped over some stuff. I repainted them today and when they drys I'm going to see how far I can get.

You tube and research the heck out of it.
Above all though do not be afraid to make mistakes.
It happens and hopefully you learn from it.
Sorry I am not close to Decatur.

Hi Sean and welcome to the forum!

Car repairs can appear daunting but if you take your time and research it, you can repair anything. All vehicles start out as just a bunch of parts. Google and Youtube are your friends in these situations. While your picture shows good detail of the fastener, it might help us if we knew what area of the vehicle you were working on. I just googled jeep wj fasteners and I think it might be a "blind bumper/fender rivet". As for removal, try this link

If I lived close, I would come over and help.

Let me know if this helps.

Not sure if this will help but this is a write up I did many years ago when I put tow hooks on my wifes Commander.

Also if those are plastic rivets you can buy the rivets and the install tool from Harbor Freight.
