Moab 2012 damage report
No, we're not there yet, but the AC in Tom & Sally's truck gave up early, looks like the compressor clutch kinda exploded or froze, and also took out the belt. Matt & Lisa's AC also quit early, but a shot of R134a got that going. Lastly, Al & Kat's trailer plug fell out and dragged the road for awhile. Matt had some spare trailer connector parts and we tried to rig something up quickly, but gonna grab a new plug in the morning. To be continued...

The Jeep Gods have spoken. Better turn about and head for home before it's too late.
What did you do to Tom's truck back on the road?

Re: Moab 2012 damage report
Luckily the AC compressor has its own dedicated belt, so there was no effect on anything else.Duke Winch wrote:What did you do to Tom's truck back on the road?

Re: Moab 2012 damage report
Trail day one. Gemini Bridges, Metal Masher, then Long Canyon. Matt blew apart a rear drive shaft slip yoke, which damaged the pinion yoke and threads, all apparently due to a broken traction bar bolt, and trying 2nd gear at Fraser's suggestion. Tom replaced a fuel pump, Al replaced a temp gauge and air filter, and had Bill's help adjusting the carb, and Bill also replaced an air filter, all back at the houses. Last but not least, Clint's tow vehicle had transmission and/or clutch problems causing him to leave the truck at a Ford dealer in Grand Junction, CO, while Matt drove up there to retrieve him, his wife, daughter, jeep and trailer. What will Tuesday bring...?

Re: Moab 2012 damage report
I agree Jon, I would say Al is a front runner. He pulled apart the front slip yoke, and 200 yards later, he broke 3 blades off his cooling fan, and the fan motor was shot, it seems the blades got behind a bracket. As usual Bill came to the rescue. And towed Al, back to the trail head , that was a good mile away.
And that was with a broken drivers side broken motor mount!
Vicki says bills jeep is awesome.

That's no Power Wagon, that's the predecessor, a Military WC. But a nice looking rig!

Re: Moab 2012 damage report
Forgot to mention, Al twisted his driveshaft Wednesday morning on Moab Rim, no other damage occurred. That afternoon, a smaller group ran Steel Bender at warp speed, and amazingly incurred no damage.
Thursday's trail was Pritchett Canyon, one of the toughest here. Al broke the left front spring center pin, so Clint fired up his on board welder and Al laid a bead across the main leaf on both sides of the perch to keep it from shifting. Clint later pulled the left rear shock from its frame mount, nothing actually broke and he was able to straighten the bar pin and reattach it. Al pulled apart his front driveshaft again on the bypass for "Rocker Knocker" After a while, he had some charging issues and let the jeep run most the rest of the day, and his power steering pump was making some horrible noises. He then almost rolled, broke a long side front axle shaft (we think) and needed to winch up "Rock Pile", further depleting the battery. He also discovered the welded main leaf had broken at the rear weld, luckily the second leaf had a military wrap that kept things together. Summary: a rough day for Al. Oh, and Tom's steering gear box sprung a decent leak.

It don't get any better than this, a bad day in Moab is way better than any day at work. If you don't believe me just take a good look at the pictures that have been posted.

We had a great time in moab, good friends, good food and great wheeling. I've got the front hub taken apart and it looks like it was the lock-out that broke not the axle.

Re: Moab 2012 damage report
We had a great time too!
Jeep did very well. I did have to winch 3 times on Pritchett canyon. The Jeep wanted to do it but the owner was well, lets just say a little worried.
Had alot of fun having Dirk and Beth riding with me. (Fraser's brother and future sister in law) Beth rode with me through ever obstacle except for Widow maker. ( I did not make it anyway)
I have not decided what to do about my steering box. I could probably get by with a seal kit.
My AC compressor in the truck was a used one from Neals.
It lasted 3 years and was making alot of noise before we left for Moab.
I had thought about replacing it but figured it was still working so why replace it.
As Al said, good times, food and freinds!
