Swap Meet
We started discussing this at the meeting but let's open it up to a wider audience: Do we want to have the swap meet in October? Is there a need to do it (i.e. do people have things they would bring to sell)? Should we just turn it back into a regular meeting, or perhaps a cookout without the sale? The first year worked out well but last year was a pretty poor showing and not many people brought things to sell. Opinions, please.

Re: Swap Meet
I think if we do have a swap meet we should open it to the public.
Pretty much everyone knows what people have, and if you do need something all you have to do is post in the forum.
A cookout would be fun too.

How about a fall type activity into the evening? A bon fire, chili, and hot dogs. Bring your favorite recipe and see who's the most daring with their taste buds. I haven't looked lately, but there is usually a large amount of wood pallets at work.

Re: Swap Meet
i agree with tom, i do have some things to put in a swap meet but i think it would be better for all if the public was invited. maybe even a small radio spot to get the word out?

Re: Swap Meet
Any other opinions? The date is getting closer... what do we want to do? For those of you suggesting that we make it public, are we sure we'd have enough participation to really do it right? Al and Tom... I don't think you guys were there last year. We barely had enough people to fill seats at a couple of folding tables, and a lot of people didn't even bring anything to sell. Not that that's wrong, but if we had invited the public last year it would have been a joke.
How should we promote it to the public? I think a radio spot might be a little ambitious, and more expensive than you might think. I would rather see club funds spent on things that directly benefit the membership and not event promotion.
And of course the age-old question is, where should we have it? Mike Chambliss has offered his place again, but he is not currently a member of the club. Not sure how people feel about that. Jon and Jill have also offered up their place.
To be blunt: If we really want to do this, I'd like to see more than three people raise their hands in class here.

Re: Swap Meet
Unlike two years ago, I personally don't have enough stuff that I'm ready/willing to part with to make any significant contribution to this event, sorry. But I'd gladly attend to browse, mingle and eat, even if the parts selection was minimal.

Re: Swap Meet
I feel that 2 weeks isn't enough time to advertize for a public swap meet,Seems to me something like a public meet would take a couple months to put together.
I think we could do 1 of a couple things.
1. Just like last year.
2. Check with Duke about moving up the Halloween run, given his job in Utah .
3. A meeting with a cook out, Bon fire, hot dogs, ECT.
I've never set up a event like Al and Tom suggest , I'm sure there would be insurance issues. Parking is another concern.
My choice would be #2 of the above. #3 would be 2nd.
I also agree with Dave on using club funds to sponsor a swap meet. The problems, In my opinion would out way any rewards.
I have a boat load of parts, that being said, I really don't want to load stuff up
Just to bring it all back home again. We do have a for sale section in the forum,
there's apparently not a lot that members want to sell, or it would be listed.
My $.02

Re: Swap Meet
I've looked at the pallet pile at work and there is easliy 5-8+ pickup loads. Doesn't care how many are taken, just going to be trucked to Good Earth for mulch. A couple trucks with trailers should do good and can get them anytime. On Adams St Peoria by Komatsu. Just PM when decision is made.
Did anyone realize this is the first weekend for Spoon River Drive? Most swap meet public will probabaly be there. Just additional info.
