2013- THE BIG TRIP.

Post by vlucdog »

The Fire Dept required me to pick my 2013 vacations today. I picked August 23,26, and September 1. These are the Scheduled dates that I need off for the Big Trip.
I realize other dates have been talked about. That being said, I can cancel these days for others but not in the months of the last 2 weeks of May, June, July, August, and probably the first 2 weeks of September. These months fill up before any others.

Will, this trip is tentatively scheduled for August 24 thru September 2nd.

As of now we would start at the Superlift park in Hot Springs Arkansas, leave there and head to Wheeling World in Erueka Springs Arkansas, and finish up at SMORR , just East of Springfield MO. The thought behind ending up at SMORR was its a holiday weekend, and club members could drive down on the last weekend, Labor is Monday.

Okay, I booked one side of the duplex at Superlift Park for the weekend of Aug. 23rd-25th. I figured Al and Kat can stay there with us if they haven't gotten a camper in the meantime. Bill, I assume you could call and reserve a spot and tell them what hook ups you need. Time to get on the ball with this trip! Do we want to rough it again at the Wheelin World campground or look for something closer? There are a couple of cabin type places close to the park but I'm not sure about the trucks and trailers fitting in the parking areas. Could call and see about that issue. Plus Bill would you rather camp or have a nice cozy room in Eureka Springs. We may be able to leave trailers and jeeps at the park but will need to call and ask. Also need to know the dates for arrive and departure. Same for SMORR. Do we want to camp or stay in town?

So were staying the nights of the 23rd, 4th, and 5th correct. Vicki and I will be staying in "Big Red " the entire trip.
So if I'm correct, the nights at Wheeling World will be the 26th, 7th, 8th, and 9th (Thursday). The nights of the 30th and 31st at SMORR. Are we leaving for home on the 1st of September? Or Sunday the 31st of Augest?
Also, are the people that are going , up for a day on Table Rock Lake in a Pontoon boat? Just a thought. I'll bring my Speedo's, :-) . I'll also bring the little grill and we'll have steak and shrimp kabobs on the lake.

Yes, Bill the dates are correct. The only exception might be the return date of Sept. 2nd. That is monday/ Labor day unless you want to leave on sunday the 1st. So Al and Kat, do you want me to look into a cabin near the park (Wheelin World) and call the park about possibly leaving the the Jeeps and trailers there? I can also check into lodging around SMORR. Tom and I would be up for a day on the lake. Plus I need to get some of the Good Sh-t Seasoning! Buying a couple of them this time!

I will be taking my camper as Fraser will be hauling my Jeep. As such I have an extra bed for the trip. Any takers?

Well.... Al and Kat and Tom and I will all be taking camping gear with us. We have a Duplex rented for Hot Springs to stay at. In Eureka Springs and SMORR, we had planned on camping. Depending on the weather, ground conditions, possible hook-ups ( for fans), we might consider bunking in with you. I figured the pull out couch/bed and possibly an air mattress could fit in the camper with a little fignaggling. The only downside would be the snoring of one possibly two people. lol Thanks for the offer!!!

Duke,

I'm leaning towards meeting the group for the Hot Springs portion only. This could change though but those are my initial thoughts. Myself and possibly Lisa wouldn't be opposed to the offer of a place to crash. This may trade off well with the others utilizing a duplex at HS only. I'll respectfully put my name in the hat as a potential house guest if that's ok. Thanks for the thought.

Most definetly. Scheduling looks good for the both of us so we plan to meet you guys for Hot Spring. Now I need to blow the dust off of the jeep. My clutch hydraulics seem to have given up the ghost. Need to pickup a pre- bled master/slave.

In other news, we both finish grad school next week. Can't wait as its consumed us for almost 2 years now.

I made reservations for Superlift, site #16, but was warned about an abusive neighbor in #15.

Emailed Smorr with reservation request and awaiting a response.

And assuming Wheeling World being mid week, reservations are not required. Bill did you get reservations?

A couch/pull out and an air mattress will definitely work. There use to be two pull outs facing each other. I need to be reminded to throw in the second mattress that came with the trailer.

Matt and Lisa ... Its great to hear that you may be joining us! Your reservations for the extra bed on the Hot Springs leg is confirmed.

Sorry for the late change of plans but were going to respectfully bow out of this years big trip. Was a no brainier previously but after months of trolling the waters, a reasonable offer showed up the other week and the TJ now has a new home in Virginia. It was really a situation of me now wanting less of a trailer queen and something I can use more than a couple times a year. Still brainstorming the long term plan for the most ideal replacement but plan to have something for Moab
14. Have a great time and take lots of pictures.
