Redbird June 20th - 22nd

Post by tchpet »

Anyone interested? Dave and I are thinking of going down Friday evening, wheeling on Saturday, and coming back on Sunday. We will probably stay at Days Inn in Sullivan.

Anyone else going?

Had a great time at Redbird! Learned Dave has a hearing problem. Rangers told him to stay clear of trails 4 and 27. Guess where he led us?

Had a lot of fun. Learned a lot . Had a little trouble with the Jeep . Thanks to all . Time to get it repaired . Kinda wondering if I want 33" or go to 35"s tires . Jeep is up and running . Got under the Jeep with a flashlight and found a rod that connects to the transfer case disconnected . Wish I would of looked closer in Indiana . Time for Upgrade .

Maybe not, are the axles big enough and do you have low enough gearing, you have enough lift to keep them from rubbing( lock to lock) there's a lot to look at before you just go out and buy bigger tires and then they don't fit your set up

If you are going to the expenses of re-gearing your axles, and plan to install 33"+ tires, I would install at a minimum 4.88s. Anything less, you will be disappointed in the performance of your Jeep and OD will be almost useless on anything but level ground with a tail wind, regardless of what the charts suggest. When I was running 4.10s with 33" tires OD was useless and when I upped it to 35" tires it got even worse.

When going to a larger tire size, maintaining good gas mileage will be a thing of the past even with a higher gear, (which is numerically lower, i.e. 3.07). Wind and rolling resistance require the engine to suck more fuel to maintain the same speed.
