Jill, don't forget I have 2, 258 engines that run good that are free if it comes down to the wire. Mabye frank could engineer both of them as a V-12,

Thanks Bill!! The parts to put mine back together should be here on Tuesday. Rod bearings and piston rings are on the list to be installed. Jon is also going to replace the valve stem seals. I think new spark plugs are also on the list. : )

Do you have to get the cylinders machined or did it just trash the rings?

I think just the rings.

Why does this always happen just before a big run. My jeep died in the yard last night and has since refused to start... Hope it is not as involved of a fix as Jill's

Oops... that is what you get for saying you didn't have much to do on your Jeep before the trip!!!

It is running again, just an ignition module. Almost had to go to Peoria and repo a distributor.

We are making progress. We had to wait a few days for parts, but it gave us a break. The pistons are back in, oil pan installed, new oil pump installed, starter back on, drive shaft hooked back up, and new bushing for steering shaft installed. Things left to be done: Install heads, intake manifold, put alternator and power steering pump back on, hook up fuel injection, hook up radiator and install battery. We have 7 more days.... I think we can do it!!
