Tj Rubicon locker bypass

Post by Rubicrawler »

http://www.wanderingtrail.com/Mods/TJLJ ... Defeat.htm use the (lockers can be engaged at any speed any t case position) top left of the 4 shown.
violet/dark blue (front locker) cut wire and run to switch 1
violet/dark green (rear locker) cut wire and run to to switch 2
black (ground) cut and run to both switches Thats it ! it's that easy! Since the Relays always have power applied to the D4 and D13 connection, applying a ground to D6 or D11 will cause the Rear and Front Locker Relay to energize, respectively. Once energized, voltage will be supplied to the Rear or Front Locker Pumps. They will turn on until 5 PSI of pressure is achieved, and then the pump will turn off – assuming no air leaks.

The two switches basically bypass the existing Axle Lock Switch and control the Front and Rear Locker Relays independently, as well as sending a Logic “0” to the Instrument Cluster (EMIC). The Front and Rear Locker Indicator lamps function exactly the same as originally designed: slow flashing when lockers are engaged without the axles actually being locked, and steady on when the lockers are fully locked and have sent an additional ground signal to the EMIC.

Two important things to recognize about this modification:

1. The switches bypass all safety interlocks, so the lockers can be engaged at any speed, and in any transfer case setting, and will almost certainly not disengage when going over 45 mph.

2. The Locker Relays always have voltage applied to them, even when the key is out, so the switches must be returned to the open position when not in use. If not returned to the Off position, then there is a possibly of running the battery down if there is a leak in the air lines and the pumps continue to cycle, and/or damaging the pumps.

This modification is performed at your own risk, and I in no way assume any responsibility if you break your drive train using this modification foolishly.

Now that all that legal junk has been said, this modification works well and allows great flexibility when playing!

Jeff, the diagram you pointed out will not work on a '05.
Of the 3 connections marked in red, the bottom one on the right goes to the dash lights. If you hook it to ground all sorts of funny things start happening , no dash lights, and warning lights flashing.

Bill, I hooked it up exactly like it says and everything worked perfect. No funny things happening with dash lights, I did get a magnifying glass out to make sure the pin numbers were correct. Another thing Bill, that diagram is to alloy the use of the lockers at any time. Didn't you do yours for 4wd only?

I did mine on the 2 on the left side. I didn't see any need to engage the lockers above 10 mph. I can lock the rear in 2 hi.

Pay close attention to the secondary stripe colors they are close. My Rubicon is an 05 and it works perfectly. Just make sure the wires are the ones running to the back of the switch that controls the factory lockers. Let me know if you have problems I can run over and help.

I just read you tried a different one. I don't know about that one. I chose the anytime mod because of muddy hills where you have to have wheel speed. I've been using it for 6 years or so without problems.
