Why not delete '94 4.0 cat converter?

My cat decided to rust and blow through today on I-74 at a personal best 73mph downhill between Knoxville and Peoria.

I don't hug trees, I guesstimate I'll drive this '94 YJ about 4k miles a year at most, and I will hopefully never see an emissions test.

Aside from being a law-breaking rebel and destroying the ozone, is there any downside to deleting that cat with a straight pipe?

I've read a billionty wranglerforum.com and jeepforum.com and pirate4x4.com threads on the matter, but they always end up with people suggesting he just buys another cat to save the dolphins.

Any experience or opinions?

Deleting it from a vehicle that age should not hurt performance or functionality, if that's what you're interested in.

No problem.
The only issue would be if you took it somewhere to have it worked on.
