If you were trying to get on the forum this morning, it was down while I was doing an update. An update that took way, WAY longer than it should have thanks to my crappy internet connection. It's now up though, and up to date. Please post here if you find something that doesn't work.

Also fixed... The "MIJC Forum" logo at the top of every page will return you to the main forum index. There is also some smaller text in the header that will link you back to the main website. This is the way I had it for awhile, then it broke with one the forum updates. So it's back. Apparently all it takes is being home on a snow day to get some stuff done!

kind of off topic..Have you checked to see if Skyweb is available in your area? We were limited to cellular hotspots until last summer and I don't remember if I had suggested it to you in the past.

We are doing OK with this new satellite service... the speed is ok once something gets going, but a lot of small individual things take longer to load than you think they should. Case in point, the forum upgrade. For that I have to upload a bunch of mostly text files and tiny graphics, just a few dozen megabytes in total but across thousands and thousands of files. The FTP process sends multiple individual commands to upload and place each file, and the satellite distance means that each response to a command takes a second or so. So even though the transfer goes fast, all that call-and-response takes time to execute with that many files. Even just deleting files via FTP requires a bunch of individual commands to be sent. So when I was down to deleting the installation files (again, thousands of them), it was reporting over an hour to finish the process. I switched over to a hotspot on my phone and it was done in under a minute.

But like watching videos... that's something we couldn't do before, and that works much better than it ever did.

When this contract runs out, I'll see what else is out there. I'm really hoping ITV3 brings fiber down Smithville Road!
